Freetest.me 4-in-1 Kit

What is a 4-in-1 Kit?

In the past, the freetest.me service has focused on providing chlamydia screening to under 25s. This is because the prevalence of the infection is high and online screening helps attract those who wouldn't otherwise get tested - in fact, over 5% of all chlamydia diagnoses in England are made via freetest.me.

However, there are many more STIs which can be tested with self-collected samples can be tested for by post (Preventx, the company behind freetest.me has been offering wider STI testing services since 2008). These wider postal screening services are increasingly being commissioned across England to provide an alternative to visiting your local GUM clinic which may not be convenient or necessary.

These kits will usually require you to collect a genital sample (urine or vaginal swab) and a finger-prick blood sample. With these samples we can provide the same four tests that would be offered as standard in a GUM clinic.

In most cases (though it will be specified in your kit) your genital sample will be tested for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea, and your blood sample will be tested for HIV and Syphilis.

What's in the test kit?

All our kits are similar, yet bespoke for your order. Your kit will contain all the bits you need to collect your sample and return it to our laboratory for testing.

In addition to the standard swab and urine samples for bacterial infections, you will also be asked to collect a small finger-prick blood sample. This is so we can test for blood-borne infections such as HIV and Syphilis.

Some services may also offer you additional swabs to test for oral and rectal infections.

How do I collect my sample?

We've created a set of videos to help you:

We will also include full instructions in the kit, and it's important you follow them closely, especially for the blood sample collection to ensure it is suitable for us to test.

If you're not comfortable with collecting the blood sample, you may not wish to choose a GUM Kit. However, if you try but are unable to collect a blood sample, don't worry as we will still test your swab or urine.

Returning Your Chlamydia Test

As with all our kits, once you've taken your samples ensure you have completed the included form (but keep the top part - you may need it to collect your results).

Place your samples and the form back in the box and seal the box shut making sure the tabs lock tightly, and apply the security seal if one is included. We've already paid for the postage (it's freepost), so you can simply pop the kit in your nearest postbox as soon as you can.

Blood samples deteriorate over time, so it's really important you post your sample really soon after testing and ideally early in the week so it's not held up over the weekend.

Getting Your Test Results

You will receive your results via the method you chose when requesting the Chlamydia test.

You may also track your specimen and collect results any time via our tracking system.
